    Activity details

Starting from the Riverland base in Toxotes, we head towards the village of Imeros. We follow the mountain road which overlooks the plain of Xanthi, and we drive up the Ahlada plateau on an altitude of 800m.

We quietly cross the field, which is surrounded by a beech forest, in hopes of coming across a herd of wild horses. As we move to higher ground, the scenery completely changes, and rock is dominant in the western side of Mt. Ahladovouno (Tsal). In the distance we can see Nestos valley and Stavroupoli, as we head towards Kromniko through the thick oak forest.

The dirt road ends here and we easily reach the observatory of Nestos Gorge (“Thesi Theas”) in an altitude of 890m for a panoramic view of the river meanders and the Nestos Delta. Our way back to Toxotes is full of steep turns and sharp descents, but the views are rewarding.
