The land of Thrace is special, and this becomes even more evident if one travels in its mainland and meet the culture, the people, and their hospitality. A tour of the contrasts in the mountain area, where on the one hand you can see the abuse of aesthetics and morals sacrificed in the name of progress… …while on the other hand, mountainous and semi-mountainous villages built out of stone and wood still remain untouched in the heart of Rhodope. Simple and hospitable people, born within the Thracian multiculturalism, struggle to survive against political tricks and religious obscurantism in this neglected part of Europe.

    Activity details








    Starting from Xanthi, we head towards the village of Kentavros following the mountain road that passes by monasteries and small villages tucked along the mountain ridge. We approach the fortress of Ehinos, where we discover the glorious history of the Metaxas Line in the galleries of ‘Complex M’. Our next stop is the rock painting of Mithras in Thermes close to the Baths, where we will have time for a hammam bath or some coffee. Our last stop is Kottani, a small mountain village close to the Bulgarian border, where an aesthetically pleasing and flavorsome experience awaits in the local tavern.
